Power of attorney: Angolan Court establishes new deadlines

One of the requirements in Angola for the registration of any IP right through a legal representative is a power of attorney on behalf of the applicant. In cases where the applicants are foreign persons or entities, this document is even mandatory, as they are required to be represented by a local attorney at law, according to article 67 of the Angolan Industrial Property Law (IP Law).

Additionally, for these applicants, it will be required that the power of attorney will be certified at an Angolan consulate or embassy.

End of requirement of Power-of-Attorney for Intellectual Property Rights Renewals in Macao

Starting January 2, 2019, it has ended the requirement to present a notarized Power-of-Attorney when applying for Intellectual Property Rights renewals registrations in Macao

This change has the aim to simplify the administrative industrial property procedures, in order to improve its efficiency.

From now on, the agents don’t need to present a Power-of-Attorney to submit a renewal request.

2nd Angolan Intellectual Property Congress takes place in April 2019

On 25 and 26 April 2019 Epic Sana hotel in Luanda will receive the 2nd Angolan Intellectual Property Congress, an event organized by Inventa International and Ponto de Vista.

The discussion about the Preliminary Draft Law on Intellectual Property in Angola, now in public discussion, stands out from many other issues that will be on debated at this event.

London IP Week

Inventa International participated on London IP 2018, that took place from 10 to 12 December.

During this event more than 400 professionals got together with more than 60 speakers, for thought-provoking discussions looking at the most contemporary trends in the world of IP. Highly participated and interactive, this initiative allowed the participants to get up to speed with the latest business issues, in order to ensure the best IP practices and strategies.

INTA 2018 Middle East and Africa Conference, in Dubai

Dubai was chosen to receive INTA’s 2018 Middle East and Africa Conference, an annual event held by the Association with focus on this region’s IP matters.

Inventa International attended this event with the aim to catch up with the IP professionals, to discuss the latest developments and the future of IP in both in Africa and Middle East.

The Quest for Legal Certainty in Mozambique

The Mozambique Industrial Property Code (IPC), which has been in force since 2016, provides six main IP rights that any entity may use to protect their distinctive signs in commerce.

The aim of this article is to analyze to what extent these six different rights are necessary and the effects they may produce on Mozambique’s IP system.

WIPO’s Conference promotes dialogue about IP in Africa

The International Conference Respect for IP – Growing from the Tip of Africa took place in South Africa, and brought together government ministers and policymakers, judges and senior enforcement officials, international governmental and non-governmental organizations, businesses, the legal fraternity and consumer groups, to share their ideas about how to reach an effective and balanced Intellectual Property – IP enforcement system on the continent.

ICANN 63 gathered Internet professionals in Barcelona

Recognized has one of the major worldwide events, ICANN Meetings gather a wide range of professionals, including Government Representatives, IT Managers and Consultants, Intellectual Property Managers and Academics, among other professionals, who contribute to the continuing stable, secure and resilient operation of the Internet.

The last meeting took place in Barcelona, where we represented by our IT Manager, João Batalha.

CIPA’s office in Gaborone closed for relocation

Companies & Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) is relocating its office in Gaborone, Botswana, and it will be closed from the 28th September 2018 until 29th October 2018. During this period all CIPA’s services will be unavailable, which will prevent the completion of any procedure requiring its intervention.
